Holistic Center Helps Pets Heal Better

Povy Bigbee said her dog Bob is not only her pet, but he also works with her. Bob helped out their ranch by herding sheep and cattle until his arthritis got so bad he couldn't even move. That's when veterinarian Jody Kincaid, D.V.M., treated Bob with some nontraditional methods at an animal clinic and holistic healing center in Anthony, Texas. One of the procedures Kincaid performs at the center is what could be compared to a chiropractic procedure. The vet realigns Bob's back, but, with animals, the bones are not actually adjusted. "That relaxes the animal and the muscles open up the nerves. And, at the same time, you seldom have to adjust the bones. They just go back into place when the muscle relaxes," Kincaid said. Bob is also treated with monthly treatments of acupuncture. Bigbee said she noticed results after the very first treatment. "The next day he was so much better. I called and I said, 'Jody I can't believe this!' and he said, 'Just wait two days,'" Bigbee said, adding that Bob improved even more after a couple of days. Kincaid said he uses other forms of unconventional methods to treat pets and said the root of a many pets' health problems stems from poor nutrition.
